August is doing its absolute most right now. The heat is thick and golden, the kind that makes you squint even in the shade and wonder if the sun has a personal vendetta. The bees are everywhere — bumbling around like tiny, fuzzy executives who are very, very busy and would appreciate it if you'd step aside, please. And the hummingbirds? They're fueling up like they just checked their flight itinerary and realized they leave for Mexico in, oh, about five minutes.
It's that bittersweet stretch of summer where everything is lush and loud and a little bit frantic — and honestly? It's pure painting gold.
All of this glorious Midwest chaos has been pouring straight into my brush. I've been working on a new series of acrylic paintings on canvas inspired by the rolling farm fields, the patchwork of crops, the cheerful little farmhouses tucked into the hills. Think tulip fields in lavender and yellow, sheep dotting the pasture, chickens doing their very important chicken business, and trees that glow like they swallowed the sunset whole.
There's something about the Midwest in late summer that feels like a secret the rest of the country doesn't quite know about. The light is different here. The green is deeper. The sky goes on forever in a way that makes you feel both very small and very lucky.
These new Farm Series paintings are my love letter to all of it — the heat, the hum, the hurry of the season before it slips into autumn. Each one is painted with acrylic on canvas, full of color and joy and just a little bit of whimsy (because what's a farm without a few sheep wandering into the frame?).
